PRESS RELEASE RE COMBINATION FOOTBALL
The Puma Engineering Hampshire Premier League is
considering the future of its Combination
Division after having difficulty in completing
its fixtures following the adverse winter
weather.
Next season the League is likely to have a full
complement of 18 clubs and all but one have
expressed a desire to enter a reserve team in
the Combination Division.
League Chairman, Roger Allen said: “A division
of 17 teams is impractical at reserve team level
so we are forced to consider two divisions. The
problem is that we would like more teams if we
follow this option but we have a League rule
which permits only clubs in the Senior Division
to enter teams in the Combination.
“We have spoken informally to the Sydenhams
Wessex League to see if there is any common
ground but it looks as though they are going to
continue with Combination football in some form.
“To overcome the problem we might look to set up
a separate League which we would administer
which is dedicated to reserve team football
including teams currently outside the PEHPFL.
“We are a League fully committed to reserve team
football as it is an important stepping stone
for bringing promising youth team footballers
into Senior adult football. It is vital that we
get the format right for the benefit of the
players.”
